ABOUT MEDITERRANEAN DIET.
Recent research indicates that Mediterranean Diet ( sea food, fruits, vegetables and mostly Olive Oil ) supports both physical and mental Health as evidencedhttp://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Foldwayspt.org%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fimages%2FMed_pyramid_flyer.jpg&h=9AQFcD3e-&s=1
Inordinately WE CONSUME FOODS with too much of acid residue ( i.e. a diet with low pH ). Our ENVIRONMENT ( including air, water and the soil ) is polluted which has lead to CLIMATE CHANGE including GLOBAL WARMING. Our HEALTH ( which depends on the internal milieu/environment and NUTRITION of the BODY and MIND ) is at STAKE. CHANGE WE CAN ( including our diet, food habits & lifestyle )!
PREFER------ MOST SPROUTS, MILK ( LOW FAT MILK FOR ADULTS ), WATER ( AT LEAST 2 L./DAY ), FISH, LEAN MEAT, LENTILS, PULSES. MOST FRUITS & VEGETABLES INCLUDING WATER MELON, DATES, APPLE, SWEET POTATO, SPINACH, GARLIC, BERRIES, BEANS, PEAS, PAPAYA, ONIONS, BRINJAL ( EGG PLANT ), NOODLES, BLACK OLIVESme categories of essential nutrients include vitamins, dietary minerals, essential fatty acids, and essential amino acids. Different species have very different essential nutrients. For example, most mammals synthesize their own ascorbic acid, and it is therefore not considered an essential nutrient for such species. It is, however, an essential nutrient for human beings, www.meganutritionhealth.yolasite.com.
Many essential nutrients are toxic in large doses (see hypervitaminosis or the nutrient pages themselves below). Some can be taken in amounts larger than required in a typical diet, with no apparent ill effects. Linus Pauling said of vitamin B3 (either niacin or niacinamide): "What astonished me was the very low toxicity of a substance that has such very great physiological power. A little pinch, 5 mg, every day, is enough to keep a person from dying of pellagra, but it is so lacking in toxicity that ten thousand times as much can [sometimes] be taken without harm. , OKRA, POTATO, GREEN MANGOES, CANTALOUPE, PEANUT BUTTER, SOY, BEETS, GREEN TEA, SHRIMPS, RICE ( BROWN/NOT POLISHED ), RASPBERRY, PEPPER GREEN/ CHILLIES, CUCUMBER, MINT, CORIANDER, CHERRIES, BREADS ( WHOLE ), PUMPKIN SEEDS, MUSTARD OIL, CANOLA OIL & FRESH AIR/PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ( MINIMUM 30M/DAY )
In short one-third for foods, one-third for liquids and the last third of the stomach to be left empty for air.
OPTIONAL-----OLIVE OIL, POMEGRANATE ( acidic but a rich source of antioxidants ), FIGS, HONEY ( in moderation ), TOMATOES, COFFEE, GREEN OLIVES, MUSTARD, FLAX-SEEDS, CARROTS, CAULIFLOWER/CABBAGE ( GOITROGENS ), PUMPKIN, LYCHEE, BANANA & SWIMMING. and a lot of PHYSICAL ACTIVITY,, and TAKE CARE!

Over-consumption of mostly acidic/ at times alkaline ( acid or alkali generating in the body ) foods, performance enhancers/remedies including food additives, tea/coffee beverages, energy drinks, soda and diet drinks, is the cause/root of many an ailment including ACIDOSIS, STOMATITIS , GASTRIC HYPER-ACIDITY (GH) , GASTRO-ESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE (GERD), PEPTIC ULCERS, ALKALOSIS, HEAR,T-ARTERY DISORDERS, DIABETES, OBESITY, REDUCED BONE MASS, URINARY TRACT STONES, AGING, ASTHMA/ALLERGY, INFERTILITY & DENTAL CARIES.
One useful index or measure to make out the quantum of acidity or alkalinity of foods/fluids, is pH of foods we consume and that of body fluids, tissues and the environment, apart from potential renal acid load ( PRAL )on account of diet consumed or acids/ bases generated in the body metabolism and net acids excreted through/ by the kidneys ( NAE ). We recommend that a balanced diet should not contain too many acid foods specially with pH below 4 and that a pollution free environment and physical activity are a must for healthy living. Further let us remember that one cannot be precise in accounting or prescribing the foods with regard to their acid/base content. Hence a broad or cursory conception of their pH values may be kept in mind to prevent/ treat the adverse effects of excessive intake of acidic/alkaline foods.Apart from avoiding over-intake of acidic foods ( sour in taste ) or too much alkaline foods for that matter ( mostly salty/mixed/brackish/slippery in taste ), the priority in order to prevent or treat a nutrient(s) burden or even deficiency in general, is the provision of BALANCED DIET along with individual, family and community Health Education and life-style management including regular physical exercise. The need to think globally and to act locally in order to mitigate environmental pollution cannot be over-emphasized. http://healthchoice.webnode.com//
Part one: The pH ( the Measure ) and the Diet .
THE CONTEXT :
The human body has an environment of its own inside the body, called the internal environment , e. g. pertaining to the blood, the intra and intercellular fluids and digestive juices, urine and various other fluids in the body in certastemin sdefinitive range or measures. One such measure ( a sign ) is pH , i.e. the concentration of hydrogen ions in solusions. It is a measure of acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution. The normal pH of blood is 7.35-7.45. This range itself is on the basicity / allklinity side. The ( pH ) in other living systems: gastric acid ( 1 ) for digestion; lysozome ( 4.5 ); skin ( 4.5 ); urine ( 6 ) mainly to get rid of acids; CSF ( 7.5 ); pancreatic secretions ( 8.1 ). A value of seven ( 7 ) refers to neutrality. The pH is expressed numerically from 0 to 14. The pH of drinking water and milk is around 7 and corresponds to neutrality whereas that of sea water between 7.5 to 8.4. That of hard drinks ( 2.8-3.8 ) and that of soft drinks ( 2.5 ). The table salt ( solutions ) is neutral. Citrus fruits and TAMARIND ( imlee ) too are acidic.
Vinegar a week acid. However sweet apple cider Vinegar is a good dip. A house-hold with vinegar will never be deserted. It is less acidic than Citrus.
Certain fruits contain phyto/plant chemicals which are antioxidants or even slow or prevent the growth of ( some ) tumors e.g. ellagic acid in straw berries, walnuts and pomegranates ( punica granatum- pH about( 4 0 ). A phyto-chemical in flaxseed ( Alsi ) is said to be helpful in prevention and treatment of BREAST CANCER.
Most foods of animal origin are slightly acidic ( egg- pH ( 6.5 ); meat -pH ( 6 );TUNA- pH ( 6 )) . However it must be remembered that proteins of high biological values are available in animal origin foods only.
To maintain the range of pH from 7.35 to 7.45 in the blood and observe the right proportion of various nutrients in the body , a number of metabolic reactions and forces e.g. vital organs (lungs, kidneys, skin, liver etc ), body cells, blood and other body fluids are at play in the body and are referred to as HOMEOSTASIS which is a tendency to uniformity. We mostly consume acid rich diet. The benefit of ALKALINE DIET is based upon a priori assumptions.
Ordinarily our diet should compose of about/around 20-40% acid ( residue ) and 60-80% alkaline ( residue ) diet.
MALNUTRITION refers to under-nutrition, over-nutrition or a combination of under and over-nutrition (with regard to one or more nutrients or resulting pH specially and mostly acidic )- all of which are hazardous to health. OVER-NUTRITION in particular and polluted ENVIRONMENT ( with Co2 emissions leading to acid environment/ global warming ) are the cause of genetic aberrations ( phenotype ), chronic degenerative disorders, cancers and even EARLY AGING. ( Read more: http://healthchoice.webnode.com//.
Over-consumption of acidic foods as such is health harming. Its chronicity results in ACIDOSIS, GASTRIC HYPER-ACIDITY, GERD, PEPTIC ULCERS, DENTAL CARIES and a host of manifestations related to their complications. Most of these manifestations or states are aggravated by certain drugs e.g. pain-killers ( NSAIDs ) and/ substance abuse including hard/soft drinks.
A balanced diet should not contain more than 30% of acid foods. At the same time let us remember that one cannot be precise in accounting or prescribing the foods with regard to their acid/base content. Hence a broad or cursory conception of their pH values may be kept in mind to prevent/ treat their adverse effects.

P.S. Most fruits and vegetables are less acidic. Some FRUITS e.g. apple, pears, watermelon, banana are rich in FRUCTOSE and are less likely to result in blood glucose spike, i.e. no bar for diabetics. So are most vegetables including sweet potato.
The alkaline dietary minerals e.g. Potassium, Magnesium, Sodium, present in them ( FRUITS & VEGETABLES ) on cooking with moisture/water make them alkaline or less acidic. Gastric juice acidity however helps in digestion of foods and destruction of pathogens.
The concentrarion of the food substance in solutions matters most in determination of its pH. For example, 0.1 molar HCl has pH of 1 ( strong ) and 0.0001 molar HCl, will have pH as 4 ( weak acid ), the acidity ( the concentration of HCl ) decreases.
The pH of pure ( neutral ) water has a pH around 7 at 25*C, 6.81 at 37*C and at 50*Cit 6.55. In pure water there are equal number of HYDROXIDE ( OH (the cation) ) and HYDRONIUM ( H3O (the anion )- a strong acid ) ) i.e. 2 H2O=OH+H3O.
Further water exposed to air is slightly acidic. H2O ( water )+CO2 ( air ) = H2CO3 = HCO3+H .
ACID RAIN is caused by emissions of CO2, SO4 and Nitrogen compounds, which react with WATER molecules in AIR to produce acids. It is fatal to aquatic life.

The aforementioned Hadith in Arabic tells us, that with which ( of food and drinks ) a human is over-loaded or over-fed nutritionally by way of stomach is harmful leading to pot-belly, i.e. OBESITY. A simple cut-to-size diet ( A FEW MOUTHFULS/ MORSELS ) is required to ( straighten his back-bone ) keep him up and about, i.e. to keep him going. Food, water/drinks and an air space in the stomach should have equal shares : to each a third. Food energy is required for the body metabolism both when one is asleep or awake. to perform activities of daily living and tasks as and when called upon professionally or otherwise.
pH refers to H ion concentration or potency of Hydrogen and is a measure of acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution/substance.
The pH of battery acid, lemon juice, vinegar, aloe vera, baking soda and ammonia correspond to about 1, 3, 4,4.5, 8 and 12 respectively. The claim that citrus fruits ( containing citric acid ) render the body fluids alkaline is on account of its potassium (k) content. Citrus rind though is tasty in pickles. Veniger is less acidic than citric acid. It should be remembered here that human body's metabolism depends largely on ( Kreb's ) citric acid ( cycle )
Aloe Vera juice ( pH 4.5 ) in traditional medicine is claimed to be acid-reducer or balancer and a cure for ARTHRITIS is not evidence-based.

For example, most mammals synthesize their own ascorbic acid, and it is therefore not considered an essential nutrient for such species. A little pinch, 5 mg, every day, is enough to keep a person from dying of pellagra, but it is so lacking in toxicity that ten thousand times as much can [sometimes] be taken without harm.ACIDOSIS ( The most common of acid-base homeostasis disorders ) : It refers to increased acidity in the blood and other body fluids/tissues, specially of blood plasma where it is known as acidemia. The state/nature and rate of metabolic activities ( reactions ) depend upon pH of body fluids. A deranged pH would result in denatured proteins ( enzymes) otherwise responsible for the chemical reactions.
The symptoms include: headach, sleepiness, confusion, coma; seizures, weakness; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; shortnessof breath, coughing; increased heart rate, irregular heartbeats.
The terms metabolic acidosis ( deficiency of HCO3 in the body ), lactic-acidosis ( in strenuous physical exercise ) , renal ( damage ( inability to retain HCO3 ) ) acidosis, diabetic keto-acidosis and respiratory acidosis ( respiratory illnesses and environmental pollution (CO2 excess or retention in the body ) ) in themselves point to their origin.
A high intake of acidic foods or acid yielding foods in the body results in lowering the pH value of blood i.e. pH lower than 7.35. This condition or disorder is known as ACIDOSIS, its sequelae being OBESITY, DIABETES,HEARTERY DISEASE, CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME and EARLY ONSET of AGING.
On the contrary some athletes/sportsmen may consume baking soda as advised by their coach which may result in alkalemia/alkalosis. The blood pH values more than 7.45 refer to ALKALOSIS.. In U.S. death sentence is executed by injecting K ( alkalizing ) salts.
GASTRIC HYPER-ACIDITY:
The pH of gastric acid is 1.5-3.5 i.e. 5000 ppm or 0.5% on an average. The pH of gastric juice is 1.4 roughly half of orange juice (moderately acidic) and varies. The pH of gastric juice ( famously acidic ) is normally a feature of positive health. The gastric acidity prevents Pneumonia and a number of infections e.g. Candidiasis. It helps in the absorption of various nutrients including calcium, B 12, Vit. C, Iron , Zn and Folic acid. The low levels of gastric acid may become responsible for alterations of intestinal flora and more often result in fracture of hip bone. Its total absence is known as achlorehydria leads to vitamin B12 deficiency and anemia. The hyper acidity of gastric juice as in Z-E syndrome may lead to gastric and duodenal ulcer (peptic ulcer). Hypercalcimia may result. Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) may be with or without gastric hyperacidity Consumption / supplementation of calcium without vitamin D3 may lead to pancreatic cancer.
Gastric hyper-acidity is a fore-runner of Peptic ulcer, GERD and ACIDOSIS and has reached epidemic proportions. The acidosis ( pH of blood less than 7.35 ) may coexist or be an aftermath of the hyperacidity. Every one in five is affected. It is an emerging disorder of urbanization. Whatever the manifestations of GH, its onset or outcome has a bearing on the pH of food consumed.
Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease ( GERD, Peptic esophagitis, Heart-burn) is a condition in which the stomach contents (food or liquid) lead backwards from the stomach into esophagus( the tube from mouth to stomach). This can irritate and cause heart burn , peptic ulcer, nasal congestion and pain in stomach after eating or lying down after a heavy night meal. The location of pain is above the stomach or below the breast-bone (hollow part). The pain is not related to stress or physical activity. GERD is the result of Gastro-esophageal sphincter (muscles) weakness. Ist causes include overeating / over-nutrition (Bulimia), over-consumption of acid foods, negative emotions, Dehydration and Diabetes. It may be one one of the features of pregnancy and smoking.
PEPTIC ULCER:
Two types of peptic ulcers namely gastric and duodenal ulcers are quite common and may occur along with gastric hyperacidity. The Z-E syndrome is a triad of peptic ulcer, gastric hyper-acidity and gastric tumor.
Gastric carcinoma is one of the complications of chronic peptic ulcer ( Gastric/Duodenal ulcer ) disease, GERD/GH.
INFERTILITY: A high protein or fat diet i.e. rich in oega6 fats/ arachidonic acid (and at the same time deficient in omega3 fats ) may result in low sperm motility/count and cause infertility. Acid reducers specially cemetidine may cause eractile dysfunction.
DENTAL CARIES : An acid diet or acids in pops and soft drinks ( along with sugars )and colonizing bacteria on dental surface ( forming dental plaque ) damage the enamel of teeth giving rise to Dental Caries.
In fact NEEM ( azadrachta indica ) bark extracts are used in the treatment of Peptic ulcer disease.
PREVENTION & TREATMENT in general :
The aim here is to maintain or bring the WATER in the body into a normal. balanced pH- a key to optimal health.
AVOID OVERNUTRITION. Drink WATER regularly. Avoid acid foods in general, speciallt to prevent hyperacidity ( the most common acid-base disorder.
Lifestyle changes include avoiding acid foods, overeating,soft/ hard drinks, smoking, ANGER, stress and putting on weight. PPI and H2 blockers are prescribed.
Regular physical activity and sleeping habits and meaningful leisure time pursuits are helpful.
Let us become a part of the global movement to make our cities, towns and villages healthier.
Man made , the greenhouse gases entail global warming and rise of sea levels. The industrial era and the vicious human activity (e.g. burning of fossil fuel, clearing of forests) have heralded their effects in our environment. Internally also (i.e. in the human body) the preexisting threats of cell damage in the form of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as a result of normal food metabolism, get a boost on account of the rise of the greenhouse gas in the environment- the external milieu. Premature aging, infections, chronic health disorders and respiratory infections, are some of the manifestations of this pandemic of increased greenhouse gas emissions.)
More than 70% of the earth's surface is covered by ocean. 20,000 years ago the world's sea level was about 130 m less than today. Global warming hastens the process of reducing the land area and with increased population density leads towards dooms-day.
Do ye know that anti-acidity drugs among others may cause sexual dysfunction?
And that over-consumption of certain absorb-able antacids may lead to Alkalosis!
The two preceding instances/situations do suggest that use /consumption of certain drugs or dietary elements may have some undesirable effect on human health.
Let us now consider one type of ALKALOSIS which is an aftermath of excessive milk consumption and that of other dietary elements and ant-acid drugs specially in case of Gastric HYPERACIDITY.
METABOLIC - ALKALI SYNDROME-------(MAS/BURNETT’S SYNDROME) -
a nutritional disorder with a triad of hypercalcemia (high serum calcium level), metabolic alkalosis (alkaline pH, serum bicarbonate- elevated- and pCO2- compensatory elevation i.e. through slower breathing and hypo-ventilation retaining CO2) and kidney failure- as evidenced by kidney function tests: blood urea, serum creatinine.CAUSE: Excessive milk consumption/ calcium ≥2 gm/day and antacids e.g. calcium carbonate- a calcium supplement and/ or baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), as in peptic ulcer treatment.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS: 1) Back and loin pain related to kidney stones (nephrocalcinosis) and other symptoms of hypercalcemia including abdominal groans ( anorexia, vomiting, constipation), painful bones (also fractures) and psychiatric overtones/moans (weakness, fatigue and altered mental status). In hypercalcemia, ECG shows a short QT interval. 2) Excessive urination. 3) Others related to kidney failure. There is a shift in body acid/ base balance towards alkalinity ( metabolic alkalosis). This may occur even without hypercalciurea or hypophosphatemia. Hypokalemia (hypopotasemia) may be present. Metabolic Alkalosis (as the name -MAS itself suggests) is present. The syndrome may inhibit PTH (parathyroid hormone) secretion from parathyroid gland and lead to Diabetes insipidus and even hypocalcemia i.e. calcium deficiency in the blood. However these patients may also suffer from Peptic ulcer and hypercalcemia (high calcium levels in the blood) and consequently increased PTH i.e. Secondary hyperparathyroidism to bring down the calcium level (calcium homeostasis- a tendency to uniformity).
Prevention and Treatment :
Avoid OVER-NUTRITION in general. Don't be a prodigal! Don't squander. Don't over-consume one food item so that ye are replete with it and fail to get advantage from various other essential Nutrients specially from a balances diet.
Be MODERATE with regard to your food ( intake ) habits.
Avoid baking soda (it contains sodium - too much not good for hypertensives), Tums/Gelusil i.e. absorb-able alkalis or antacids in general or too much milk/yogurt or calcium carbonate - a calcium supplement. Histamine-2 blockers e.g. Ranitidine, Proton Pump inhibitors (PPI) e.g. Omeperizole as an alternative to ordinary antacids may be used if needed with caution.
Citrus Fruits e.g. lime, lemon ( AVOID THEM !) in general interfere with drug absorption and inhibit enzyme cytochrome p 450 and may contribute to hyperacidity of stomach. By and large the these fruits ( Narangi, lime, lemon ) should be avoided.
A balanced diet should not contain more than 30% of acid foods. Water should be consumed on a regular basis.
OVER-NUTRITION with Acidic foods ( pH lower than 7 ) and so also of certain nutrients e.g. vitamins (A&D), sodium, potassium, fluorine, calcium, Iron, omega-6 fats and Trans fast are significant clinical entities leading to various metabolic disorders e.g. HEART-ARTERY DISORDERS, DIABETES, OBESITY, AGING. A diet high in cholesterol or too rich in one or more nutrients/foods may similarly become harmful e.g. high content of leucine in sorghum (jowar), supplementation/ treatment with high doses of vitamins/antioxidants e.g. folic acid, ADEK, Vit. C, CoQ10 etc****.
Overdosing with antioxidants e.g. Beta-carotene, CoQ10 ( ubiquinone ) or Vitamin E, does not bestow protection against
REACTIVE OXIDANT SPECIES ( ROS )- the unpaired electerons of Oxygen & Hydroxyl Radicals. The other antioxidants
e.g. Vitamin C, Selenium, Zinc and plant derived Polyphenols may do so, specially in deficiency states.
The priority in order to prevent or treat a nutrient over-activity or even deficiency is the provision of a BALANCED DIET through individual, family and community Health Education and life-style management including regular physical exercise. Remember there are VITAMINS IN THE LEGS.
Let us acknowledge the universal truth that the Almighty has created the heavens and the earth not in vain and in a certain measure. He has created life and death in order to try us, as to who is best of conduct.
Next the human beings in their actions and endeavors should conduct themselves in all walks of life justly and at various levels and realize that life is simple as evidenced by the book of NATURE. Only we should not complicate it ( its nature or the environment ) and observe the measure ( its normal range ) strictly thereof.
The Almighty God has created human beings and their environment namely the external and internal environments.
Part two: WATER and ENVIRONMENT
Water forms the very basis of life. Approximately two-thirds of the human body is water. And so is the
earth's surface. Aberrant human lifestyle /activities may undo such measure
/ balance and pollute them at various levels and degrees. The vegetable world provides nutrients in the
form of fruits, herbs and husked grains for the humans and for the other creatures.
Deforestation may adversely affect the earth's environment. So would URBANIZATION and/or industrial activities pertaining
to wars, aviation, transport and non-vegetarianisms, resulting in CO2 emissions. CO2 erodes O3 (Ozone)
layer in the outer environment, exposing the earth to harmful cosmic rays and herald GLOBAL WARMING, ACID RAIN ( a hazard to even aquatic/vegetative life ),
AVALANCHES, FLOODS, SMOG, VOGS, TSUNAMIS, CYCLONES, DISASTERS, causing in turn increased social instability, morbidity and mortality on collective basis
and early AGEING, PREMATURE DEATH on individual basis and WHAT NOT!
"Sweet smiling village, loveliest of the lawn,
Thy sports are fled, and all thy charms withdrawn;
Ill fares the land , to hastening ills a prey,
Where wealth accumulates, and men decay.
Lines from " The Deserted Village ". OLIVER GOLDSMITH
A HEALTHY MIND IN A HEALTHY BODY. Our body and mind require safe( both external and internal ) environment to thrive in a time bound frame. Apart from the external ( milieu ) environment, our diet with its acidity and alkalinity ( the pH ) and the oxidant nature or otherwise ( antioxidant ), physical activity and lifestyle affect their internal milieu e.g. pH. of body fluids and cells. Physical inactivity is mother of ill-health. An imbalanced diet more often leads to degenerative disorders including hert-artery disorders, diabetes, arthritis, sexual aberrations, peptic ulcers, cancers and Psychiatric illnesses.
Part three : HEALTH, NUTRITION and lifestyle.

| Physical inactivity is a major cause of a number of illnesses and health disorders including Obesity, Diabetes, Cardiovascular disease, Osteoporosis, sexual ill-health Psychosomatic afflictions and several untold miseries. Physical exercise e.g. brisk walking for half an hour a day (aerobic activity), planned physical activity at bedtime, before rising, at place of work , park or playground, preferably with a peer, is a must for a healthful living. The so-called energy drinks or performance enhancers of all kinds may do more harm than good. Soft and/or alcoholic drinks should be out your life and in fact a clean lifestyle should be ushered in. Fruits or vegetable juice may be taken preferably after the planned physical activity. Drink fluids, preferably a sport drink in case of muscle cramps or spasms. The affected part is preferably elevated and placed in a relaxed position and grasped at both ends in order to shorten and compress the muscle. Ice may be applied to numb the pain but use heat to treat cramps. Gruesome physical activity specially in hot weather or environment, dehydration, or nutritional deficiencies are their major causes.RICE : Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation, apart from heat and liniments are used. in any case even before starting a training program a health checkup is desirable. Before the planned physical activity or training program a warm up and afterwards a slowing down are necessary steps to prevent such untoward effects. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) defines aerobic exercise as "any activity that uses large muscle groups, can be maintained continuously, and is rhythmic in nature." It is a type of exercise that overloads the heart and lungs and causes them to work harder than at rest. The important idea behind aerobic exercise today, is to get up and get moving!! There are more activities than ever to choose from, whether it is a new activity or an old one. Find something you enjoy doing that keeps your heart rate elevated for a continuous time period and get moving to a healthier life. |
Two bounties ( of Almighty), many a people are careless about: the Health and the Leisure. We go through spells of Sleep and Wakefulness depending upon our age, sex, profession, climate and health status among others. One
may sleep early at the beginning of the night only to wake up at the beginning of thesecond half or early in the
morning. In any case, we require our share of sleep, rest and exercise including professional and non-professional activities. Sleep disturbances e.g. sleep apnea , muscle, joint ailments or any other chronic or acute disorder
requires medical attention before launching a physical training program.
Note: The body metabolism (activities) spans even sleep when vital organs e.g. brain, heart, lungs, liver,
or glands e.g. thyroid, pancreas, work through chemical messengers , feedback mechanisms or by flow
of nutrients. Activities of daily living, professional and non-professional, are added to them in wakefulness
and are subject to the health or disease status of the individual.
| خير الا مو ر اوسطها خير الا مو راد و مها و لو قل Let us emphasize here that many of us are negligent about the HEALTH and LEISURE time pursuits individually or collectively. Most of us are aware of the usefulness of PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/EXERCISE in our lives. USE or LOSE. Muscle wasting, rarefaction of bones or even Obesity may manifest on account of physical inactivity. Lack of planned exercise schedule is a forerunner of many a disease and mischief. The best of acts emanate from moderation and the best of practices from perseverance even though in minor forms or nature. (Vide sayings of the Prophet pbuh outlined in the Arabic texts above.) Activities of Daily Living (ADL) also contribute to physical activity. Bathing, washing, attending to one's own or somebody else's needs, climbing stairs etc. are some areas in ADL. Sports/Physical training (aerobic exercises), Strength training, Massage and Prayer activities apart Professional activities promote positive health and be encouraged. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15051601?dopt=AbstractPlus Mustard oil study Am J Clin Nutr. 2004 Apr;79(4):582-92. AbstractBACKGROUND:OBJECTIVE:DESIGN:RESULTS:CONCLUSION:Comment in
The ratio of Omega-6 fats to Omega-3 fats (w6/w3), in our diet should not be > 2:1. Whereas in our present diet it is 10-30:1. Omega-6 fats are pro-inflammatory, pro- thrombic, and vaso-active. Whereas Omega-3 fats are anti-inflammatory, anti- thrombic (reduce stickiness of blood), anti-arrhythmic and vaso-dilatory. Hence we have to cut down our intake of Omega-6 fats and increase that of Omega-3 fats. Both omega-3 and omega-6 fats are essential fatty acids.Over-nutrition with omega-6 fat and/or under-nutrition with omega-3 fat coupled with physical inactivity or improper activity are harmful and only lead to devil's workshop. |
| Cucumber, Carrots, Tomatoes and French Beans. Fresh and raw, preserved and dried fruits, and vegetables are rich source of vitamins, minerals, fiber, energy and antioxidants. |
| PHYSICAL EXERCISE and NUTRITION go hand in hand. Most vegetables and fresh fruits e.g. watermelon, PEARS, banana, fig, dates, grapes, apricots, peaches, papaya, pomegranates and apples are rich sources of nutrients, ( energy, vitamins, minerals) and dietary fiber i.e. non-energy carbohydrates (among non- nutrient food components) . |
| We do require non-veg food as well. However its ( omega-6 fat ) consumption should be restricted. |
